Anne Marie Bentley, a St. Luke’s Episcopal School alumna, is continuing to build on her passion for serving others through her work in the nursing field.

A member of St. Luke’s from K3 through 12th grade, Anne Marie built a strong foundation both academically and personally during her time on campus. While at St. Luke’s, she was actively involved in athletics, competing in both tennis and cross country—experiences that helped shape her discipline, resilience, and commitment to excellence. She also participated in St. Luke’s Biomedical Sciences Program, where she further developed her interest in the medical field and gained early exposure to healthcare-focused learning.

Now a nursing student at Samford University, Anne Marie has been selected as part of a competitive Registered Nurse Training Program (RNTP), an initiative designed to strengthen clinical readiness and expand opportunities for nursing students entering the profession. The program focuses on preparing students for work in acute care settings while equipping them to address critical needs such as health equity, health literacy, and patient-centered care.

As part of the program, Anne Marie is gaining valuable hands-on experience through additional clinical hours in hospital settings, working alongside experienced nurse preceptors. She is also participating in advanced simulation training and completing specialized coursework aimed at improving care for diverse populations. These experiences are helping her grow both professionally and personally as she prepares to enter the nursing field.

In a recent spotlight feature, Anne Marie shared that her passion for nursing began early. She felt called to pursue a career centered on serving others and providing comfort during difficult times. That sense of purpose continues to guide her as she develops the skills needed to care for patients with compassion and excellence.

Anne Marie credits her time at St. Luke’s, along with the strong faith-based community she found at Samford, for helping shape her path. Her commitment to service, paired with her drive to learn and grow, reflects the values instilled in her throughout her years as a Wildcat.

We are incredibly proud of Anne Marie and look forward to seeing the difference she will make in the lives of others. Her story is a meaningful example of how St. Luke’s students continue to pursue lives of purpose, leadership, and service well beyond graduation.

St. Luke’s Episcopal School marks a meaningful transition as it celebrates the retirement of Head of School Mrs. Suzy Banks and announces the appointment of Charles “Chip” Menton as the next Head of School, effective July 1, 2026.

Mrs. Banks has been a devoted member of the St. Luke’s family since the 1980s, serving the school as a teacher, Dean of Academics, and, since 2022, as Head of School. Throughout her career, she led with wisdom, warmth, and a steadfast commitment to ensuring students were known, supported, and challenged. Her leadership strengthened the academic and spiritual foundation of the school and leaves a legacy that will be felt for generations.

Looking to the future, the Board of Trustees has selected Charles “Chip” Menton to lead St. Luke’s into its next chapter. In a letter from the Board of Trustees, chair Tara Lockett said:

“Mr. Menton currently serves as Upper School Director at St. Luke’s Episcopal School, a role he assumed in 2025. During his time in this position, he has earned the respect of students, faculty, and families through his visible presence on campus, collaborative leadership style, and unwavering focus on student growth. He brings extensive experience in educational leadership, a thoughtful approach to decision-making, and a commitment to fostering a supportive and forward-thinking school culture.”

“From the beginning of this process, our goal was to identify a leader who reflects the values of our community and has the experience to move St. Luke’s forward,” said Tara W. Lockett, chair of the Board of Trustees. “It became clear through our conversations and interviews that Mr. Menton brings not only exceptional professional experience but also a presence that aligns beautifully with the spirit of our school.”

“As Head of School, Mr. Menton will focus on advancing St. Luke’s STEM+M program, supporting student growth, fostering strong partnerships within the school and broader community, and guiding responsible institutional growth. His leadership will emphasize collaboration, innovation, and a continued commitment to excellence—ensuring St. Luke’s remains a place where students are prepared to lead with confidence, character, and compassion.”

As St. Luke’s honors the remarkable legacy of Mrs. Banks, the school moves forward with purpose and optimism under the leadership of Mr. Menton, confident in a future defined by innovation, integrity, and opportunity.

More Than An Alumna: Taylor Jackson.

I
n the heart of Mobile, Alabama, St. Luke's Episcopal School has long been recognized for its commitment to academic excellence and innovative programs. Among its distinguished offerings, the Biomedical Sciences Program stands out as a beacon for students aspiring to delve into the medical and scientific fields. A shining example of this program's success is Taylor Jackson, a 2023 alumna whose journey from St. Luke's to groundbreaking research epitomizes the program's impact.

Taylor's passion for biomedical sciences was ignited during her time at St. Luke's. The school's Biomedical Sciences program, established in 2010, is renowned for providing a pre-professional college preparatory curriculum that immerses students in various healthcare and biomedical engineering fields. From the outset, students engage in an in-depth study of healthcare systems, medical history, safety protocols, and medical terminology. The program's dynamic curriculum integrates real-world experiences and hands-on learning, facilitated by a cutting-edge skills and simulation lab. This lab features designated hospital, clinic, and triage simulation spaces, allowing students to practice clinical skills such as suturing, venipuncture, and spinal immobilization. The incorporation of advanced technologies like 3D virtual and augmented reality further enriches the learning experience, enabling students to visualize internal anatomical structures and devise innovative solutions to medical challenges.

During her senior year, Taylor participated in the program's capstone course, "Interventions in Biomedical Sciences." This course required her to complete a comprehensive research paper and deliver a presentation, experiences that honed her research abilities and public speaking skills. Additionally, she engaged in job shadowing opportunities, providing her with invaluable insights into various medical professions and helping to solidify her career aspirations.

After graduating from St. Luke's, Taylor pursued higher education as a pre-health major, where she continues to excel. After just her first year of undergraduate study, Taylor was selected to join a competitive summer research project at the University of South Alabama's Whiddon College of Medicine. Her dedication and the solid foundation built during her high school years culminated in her co-authorship of the research paper titled Design of Multiplexed Live-Cell Imaging Experiments Using Excitation Scan. This study focuses on advanced imaging techniques that allow for the simultaneous measurement of multiple signals within live cells, a critical advancement in understanding complex biological systems. The research introduces a multiplexed imaging strategy that enables live-cell target detection via sequential fluorescence imaging, providing a more comprehensive view of cellular dynamics.

Taylor's achievements underscore the effectiveness of St. Luke's Biomedical Sciences Program in preparing students for collegiate and professional success. The program's emphasis on experiential learning, coupled with access to state-of-the-art facilities and mentorship from experienced faculty, equips students with the skills and confidence needed to thrive in competitive scientific environments. Taylor herself credits the program for her preparedness, stating, "The Biomed program, real-world experiences, and hands-on learning truly prepared me for college and life. I have more confidence in my research abilities and public speaking, which is something that I didn’t know I would grasp from the program."

St. Luke's Episcopal School continues to foster an environment that changes the way students experience the world through STEM+M. The Biomedical Sciences Program remains a cornerstone of this vision, inspiring and preparing the next generation of medical professionals and researchers. Taylor's journey from a curious high school student to a published researcher exemplifies the program's success in cultivating talent and ambition.

For prospective students considering a future in the biomedical field, St. Luke's offers a unique and comprehensive program that blends rigorous academics with practical experiences. The school's commitment to innovation and excellence ensures that graduates are well-equipped to navigate the challenges of higher education and contribute meaningfully to the scientific community. Taylor's story is a testament to the transformative power of dedicated educators, a supportive learning environment, and a curriculum designed to inspire and challenge students.

As St. Luke's Episcopal School looks to the future, it remains dedicated to nurturing the intellectual and personal growth of its students. The success of alumni like Taylor serves as both a source of pride and a reminder of the profound impact that a robust educational foundation can have on an individual's trajectory. Through programs like Biomedical Sciences, St. Luke's continues to empower students to pursue their passions and make significant contributions to the world.

About St. Luke's.

T
roop 8743 is our very own Wildcat Girl Scout Troop. Run by Mrs. Miniard and Mrs.Tabatha, this troop has been active for the past three years. The group has grown to be home to over twenty girls, ranging from kindergartners to fourth graders. Our troop also has girl scouts who don't attend St. Luke’s. We have one member who attends Cottage Hill and another who is homeschooled. These girls used to attend St. Luke’s, so once a Wildcat always a Wildcat!

This year, they have two girls working towards thier bronze award. The Girl Scout Bronze Award is the highest honor a Junior Girl Scout can achieve, requiring a team effort to identify and address a community issue through a Take Action project, fostering leadership skills and community impact. These girls have decided to get thier troop together and create blankets for foster families, while also collecting donations for them.

At this most recent meeting, Ms. Brook from Grace's House of Hope came to talk to the girls. This transitional home for single mothers and their dependent children will serve families in the Mobile area. Ms. Brook talked to our aspiring bronze award scouts about Foster care and what Grace’s House of Hope is all about. Grace’s House of Hope welcomes mothers who come into Family Care and are given the tools to rebuild their lives in a safe and healthy space during a transitional time. All of the girls were so interested in what Ms. Brook had to say, they had a multitude of questions. Before Ms. Brook came, the girls all brought their own donations to send back with her to Grace's House of Hope! They collected toilet paper, diapers, paper towels, blankets, laundry detergent, and more! They sent Ms. Brook back with a car stuffed full of donations and gifts. Along with these donations, the troop also sent her some world-famous Girl Scout cookies!!

It was so amazing to see how this meeting unfolded on our lower campus because I used to be a Girl Scout! We had our own troop back when I was on the lower campus and it was such an amazing experience for me. We used to go camping, fishing, and took so many fun field trips. I remember my troop was also filled with a mixed variety of grade levels, including my sister! It really brought me out of my shell and forced me to interact with other kids. I am so thankful Mrs. Miniard and Mrs. Tabitha were able to bring this amazing experience back into our St. Luke’s community! I hope that Girls Scouts serves these young girls like it served me and I cannot wait to see what amazing things they do next.
