St. Luke’s soccer is ready for a big season in 4A. It’s that time of year again—soccer season is here, and excitement is in the air at St. Luke’s Episcopal School! After an incredible year for both the boys’ and girls’ teams, expectations are higher than ever as they move up to Class 4A. Last season, the boys brought home the 1-3A state championship, while the girls made school history by reaching the Final Four for the first time. Now, with tougher competition ahead, both teams are ready to prove they belong among the best.

Coming off a state championship victory, the St. Luke’s boys’ soccer team is looking to keep the momentum going. Last season, they dominated their competition in 1-3A, showing strong teamwork, skill, and determination. But with the move to 4A, the challenge gets even tougher. While they may be in a new classification, this team knows what it takes to win. Expect to see a fast-paced, aggressive style of play as they take on bigger schools and tougher opponents. The question is: Can they repeat their success at a higher level? If their work ethic and chemistry are anything like last season, they have a great shot at making another deep playoff run.

The St. Luke’s girls’ soccer team made a statement last year by reaching the Final Four for the first time in school history. It was a breakthrough season that showed just how talented and determined this group is. Now, as they enter 4A, they’ll have to raise their game even more. With new challenges ahead, this team is ready to prove they belong. Returning players who experienced last year’s deep playoff run will be key leaders, helping guide younger teammates as they face stronger competition. The goal? Not just to make the playoffs, but to go even further. With their strong defense, dynamic attack, and never-give-up mentality, the girls are determined to make another historic run.

St. Luke’s soccer is on the rise, and this season is a chance to show that last year’s success was just the beginning. Moving up to 4A brings new challenges, but this program has proven that it’s ready to compete at the highest level. Whether it’s the defending champion boys’ team or the history-making girls’ squad, one thing is for sure—St. Luke’s soccer is ready to make some noise. So, students, parents, and fans, get ready for another exciting season. Come out, support the teams, and be part of what could be another historic year for St. Luke’s soccer!

2025 Basketball Senior Night.

W
hat does it mean to play your last game on St. Luke’s home court? Well for me it was everything I have ever dreamed of.

Having attended St. Luke’s Episcopal School since kindergarten I have experienced a multitude of senior nights. But it wasn't until January 6th as the horn blew to end the last quarter that it hit me, how fast it all went by.

All my life I have participated in athletics and as I ended my last game on my home court, I realized just how important sports are to me. As they called my name to walk across the court, I looked around the gym at all my closest friends, I finally understood what it meant to be a part of the St. Luke’s family. In the bleachers, there were not just my classmates, but my closest friends, not just my teachers, but my greatest supporters, and on the court was not just my team, but my closest family.

Words cannot begin to describe the instant gratitude I felt for all the warm souls surrounding me and I would not be here without each and every one of them. I know it may seem like a sappy cliche, but the best advice I can give any underclassmen is to appreciate every moment truly. I know the practices full of running seem horrible, but I would give anything to go back and run it one more time. Just for another game with my team, another huddle with my family, and even getting chewed out by my coach one more time. The emotion St. Luke’s athletics has brought into my life is unmeasurable and I will be forever grateful.

St. Luke's athletics have shaped me into the person I have become today. Each sport is so different, but all of my coaches have taught me one thing. Athletics is bigger than a win or a loss, it's about how you conduct yourself through it. As I walked across the court for the last time, I was overcome with memories of my season.

This moment made me truly appreciate the type of coach that Coach Hill has been for me. She has taught me strength, gratitude, selflessness, and courage. Coach Hill has brought out the best in me and I know she has always seen it even when I didn’t. She has been there for me when I didn’t know I needed her and pushed me and my teammates to be the best versions of ourselves, not for our sake, but for our team. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to play under such a passionate coach and I hope more people get to experience the way she changed my life.

Throughout my final sport at St. Luke, I found a deeper appreciation for my teammates. These girls and I have been to War together, from no-ball practices to learning a team cheer, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. They are who I try for and who I play for, they have taught me passion outside of myself. That is the most precious life lesson to me, fight for someone else and not just for you. Specifically, the younger classmen are who I find the most love for. Although there are grades in between us, they have become my best friends on and off the court.

That's what St. Luke’s athletics have done for me, it has provided me with an ever-growing family. From the outside, our team may look like a regular, run-of-the-mill basketball team, but deep down these girls have become the most important people in my life. They orchestrated the most thoughtful senior night for me, from balloons to silly strings. They knew my favorite songs, candies, and bible verses. This ceremony was everything to me, but the appreciation I felt from my teammates was so much more. I know that this next step in life is going to be terrifying for me, but I have so much faith in these girls that I’m not scared. They are stronger than they think, braver than they believe, and smarter than they know.

So as I finish up this last season, I hope to see you all in the stands supporting us and the rest of St. Luke’s athletics. Try everything you can while you still have time, because it will be over in a blink of an eye. Find deeper appreciation for the moments you do have and don’t dwell on the moments you have lost. God has provided you with the most amazing opportunities, don't let them go to waste. Love your team, your classmates, your coaches, and your teachers because you will never find a closer bond anywhere else besides St. Luke’s.

Go Wildcats!

No Off Season for Track Athletes.

T
his year marks the third season of indoor track at St. Luke's Episcopal School, offering students an exciting opportunity to compete in a unique athletic environment. Led by two dedicated coaches, Coach Russell and Coach Mathison, the program reflects the school’s commitment to fostering both athletic and personal growth.

Indoor track is similar to outdoor track but features key differences. Competitions are held indoors, with shorter distances tailored to smaller venues, and shot put is the only throwing event included. The tighter, banked turns demand precision and adaptability from athletes, adding a technical challenge to each race. While practices take place on the school’s outdoor track, the team competes at the Crossplex in Birmingham. This professional facility inspires students to rise to the occasion, offering a high-energy environment that enhances their performance.

The program has already seen notable accomplishments in its brief history. Last year, Garrett Dolbear set a state record in the 400-meter dash, a remarkable feat that brought pride to the entire school. Alex Prieto showcased his prowess in field events by winning state in discus and placing first in shot put. Additionally, Brooks Musial earned second place in shot put at the state competition. These achievements underscore the exceptional talent and dedication of St. Lukes’ athletes and set a high standard for future participants.

The sport’s inclusive nature allows students of all skill levels to participate, fostering a strong sense of community. Practices are collaborative, with athletes encouraging one another regardless of experience. Whether discovering hidden talents or refining existing skills, students are united by shared goals and mutual respect. This camaraderie strengthens the team and exemplifies the welcoming spirit of St. Lukes. The inclusive environment ensures that everyone, from seasoned runners to beginners, has the chance to grow and contribute to the team’s success.

Beyond physical development, the sport cultivates vital mental discipline. Athletes set goals and work consistently to achieve them, gaining confidence and a sense of accomplishment. Whether improving race times or perfecting shot put technique, every success reflects their hard work and determination. These lessons in goal-setting and resilience prepare students for challenges both on and off the track. The skills they acquire through indoor track serve them in academics, personal endeavors, and future careers, making their participation both meaningful and impactful.

Competing at the Crossplex enhances the experience for athletes. The professional atmosphere motivates students to push their limits and connect with the broader track community. For many, stepping onto a professional track for the first time is both exciting and inspiring, creating lasting memories and a deeper appreciation for the sport. The high-level competition fosters a sense of pride and accomplishment that stays with athletes long after the season ends.

As the season progresses, the indoor track team is already making a positive impact on the school’s athletic culture. Their unwavering commitment to the sport sets an example of determination and spirit, demonstrating what can be achieved through dedication. Whether running their first race or mastering a new skill, these athletes embody the core values of St. Lukes. Their efforts contribute to a vibrant and dynamic athletic program that continues to grow and evolve.

The introduction of indoor track represents more than just a new sport—it’s a significant step toward providing students with meaningful opportunities to grow, compete, and succeed. With strong leadership and a supportive community, the program is poised to leave a lasting legacy, inspiring future students to embrace the challenge and rewards of indoor track. The school’s investment in this program highlights its dedication to nurturing well-rounded individuals who strive for excellence both on and off the track.
