SENIOR HIGHLIGHTS 2024

In the coming weeks leading up to St. Luke's May 18th commencement, we will showcase the remarkable Class of 2024 by celebrating their journey, achievements and the mark they’ve left on St. Luke’s. We’re not only celebrating where they’ve been but also where they’re headed! Let’s cheer on the Class of 2024 as they transition to the next chapter of their lives, reminding them, “Once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat!”

St. Luke’s loves you!

STEM(M) AT ST. LUKE'S

Featuring: FORGING THE GULF COAST STEM+M ECOSYSTEM

Once again, St. Luke’s is charting new territory in our area. Earlier this week, we hosted our first informational meeting for the newly emerging Gulf Coast STEM+M Ecosystem. St. Luke's will serve as the anchor organization in developing a network of community leaders aimed at increasing exposure to STEM.

Industry and community leaders joined in our STEM+M Center to begin building this network and brainstorm about the project. Representatives from AMNS Calvert, Evonik, Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce, STC, USA College of Engineering, USA Department of Computing Science, and several others attended. These are exciting times for St. Luke’s as we continue to make our mark in our community and beyond.

CLOUDS CAN'T "ECLIPSE" OUR SPIRIT!

Even though the clouds may have obscured our view of the eclipse, our spirits were still bright! We were reminded that not all is lost when things don't go as planned. Instead, we found beauty in the unexpected and made the most of the moment by gathering together and still learning about the wonders of our universe. Even when our vision is clouded and things don’t go as planned, there's still so much to discover, learn, and cherish. Keep looking up, and remember, every cloud has a silver lining!

MRS. HAYNES' CLASSES TAKE A THRILLING RIDE INTO PHYSICS

Mrs. Haynes' Physics Class collaborated as engineering teams to create model roller coasters using the principles of force, motion, and energy. They were tasked with determining the speed, acceleration, kinetic energy, and potential energy at different points along the ride. Each team produced a video demonstration to showcase the operational aspects of their roller coasters.

FORENSICS WEEK 2024

Forensics Week is a highlight for St. Luke’s students each year as students are led through a crime scene scenario and given the opportunity to try to solve the crime.

  • Day One: The week began with an introduction to crime scene investigation by Mr. Glenn Garside, Director of Forensic Investigations for Cunningham Bounds, LLC. Students were shown various crime scenes, asked questions, and discussed each before learning the importance of critically assessing the entire scene rather than only focusing on the victim.
  • Day Two: Corporal Russell Benefield from the Mobile County Sheriff's Department discussed the assessment of the scene and how to methodically and systematically gather information. He discussed fingerprints, including different aspects and how they are assessed and evaluated. He also explained where prints are likely to be found or not found at a crime scene.
  • Day Three: Students learned about evidence collection and correctly preserving it. They did buccal swabs for DNA and packaged it correctly. Next, the students dusted for fingerprints and looked at blood spatters using Blue Star, a blood reagent that illuminates blood in a darkened room.
  • Day Four: The students worked in groups to investigate the crime scene using the skills they learned. Each group had a lead investigator, a scribe, and a photographer. The students were challenged to observe, collect data, request labs and testing, and formulate their opinions.
  • Day Five: The students presented their assessment of the crime scene and conclusion of what happened. At the end of each class, Mr. Garside revealed the true outcome of the case.

Thank you to Mr. Glenn Garside, Corporal Russell Benefield, and Cunningham Bounds for their support of St. Luke’s Biomedical Sciences Program.

ST. LUKE'S RECOGNIZES SENIOR BASEBALL PLAYERS

St. Luke's recently recognized our senior baseball athletes for their achievement and dedication to the sport. Each senior has spent an inordinate amount of time and effort (not to mention their parents’ time, effort, and resources) to be a Wildcat. We hope they’ve learned MORE than just what it’s like to win or lose. We hope they’ve learned how to be a good teammate, how to be dedicated to something, and how to show pride. Most of all, we hope they have made MANY memorable moments of pure joy at St. Luke's. ONCE A WILDCAT, ALWAYS A WILDCAT!

ST. LUKE'S STUDENTS BRING MAGIC TO THE STAGE

St. Luke’s theater group captivated four large audiences with its brilliant performance of Matilda, Jr., a story about an extraordinary little girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny.

This year’s show was special, with fantastic songs, high-energy dance routines, comedy, and drama. We are proud of the many students who participated in this production, including our band and tech crew. A huge thank you goes out to Hannah Grace Smith, our talented Director, Daniel Driskell, the Musical Director, and Michael Sweard, who choreographed the show. Your dedication and hard work truly helped our students shine and excel on stage!

3rd - 5th GRADE STUDENTS VISIT THE UNIVERSITY CAMPUS

While visiting the University Campus to watch Matilda, Jr., our 3rd - 5th-grade students also enjoyed a class taught by Mrs. McCleery and Mr. Bentley. They performed a "gummy bear" lab to learn directional anatomy terminology to describe the human body. It's safe to say they are already looking forward to being students on the "BIG" campus!

6TH GRADE EXPLORES EARTH'S SPHERES

Mrs. Lersch’s 6th-grade Earth Science Class explored the wonders of our planet with a hands-on activity involving modeling Earth’s spheres.

EASTER JOY AT ST. LUKE'S

St. Luke’s celebrated Easter with much-anticipated egg hunts - each discovery is a testament to the spirit of Easter and the joy of childhood, classroom parties, and even a visit from the Easter bunny. The 8th grade “Bigs” joined the K5 “Littles” for their egg hunt and Easter treats.

The University Campus engaged in a more reflective observance with the Stations of the Cross, a reminder of Christ’s enduring love and sacrifice.

St. Luke's second grade sang beautifully during their Easter chapel service.

Psalms 95: 1-7

1 Come, let us sing to the Lord; *

let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.

2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving *

and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.

3 For the Lord is a great God, *

and a great King above all gods.

4 In his hand are the caverns of the earth, *

and the heights of the hills are his also.

5 The sea is his, for he made it, *

and his hands have molded the dry land.

6 Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee, *

and kneel before the Lord our Maker.

7 For he is our God,

and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand. *

Oh, that today you would hearken to his voice!
